Hi--
My name is David Perry Lawrence, and I'm a commercial photographer based in Dallas, Texas. I create pictures of Real People in Real Places, that is, I shoot regular folks, although some might be Presidents and other millionaires. And I also create photographs of Real Places - for the most part this means architectural photography.
I'm known as a photographer who can quickly put his subjects at ease, get good, friendly expressions from them, and finish the session before they get tired. It's not always easy to do, but I'm interested in my subjects, and can easily fall into a good conversation with them. It's this interest in them as people that seems to set them at ease. That and the fact that I often play a clown.
I also have an outstanding reputation as an architectural photographer. Most of my clients come from outside of Dallas and have found me on the internet. They need pictures of their projects in Dallas, or in Texas, or anywhere in the southwest, and after seeing this portfolio online, call me to make a bid. I logged over 6000 miles in 2008 driving around Texas on architectural shoots.
People often ask if I do digital photography. I've been fully digital since sometime in the early 2000's, when I sold my last film camera. Digital photography has opened up a whole new world of better image making for me. I simply love what I am now able to do. And the cameras auto-focus too!
I was born and raised in Dallas, and returned here 25 years ago after going to college at Yale and spending a few years bumming around Europe and Hawaii. I've studied with master photographers Jay Maisel, Art Kane, and the highly-honored late Walker Evans. My father, who was an amateur photographer, bought me my 1st darkroom before I was 10.
I hope you like the photographs on this site, my online portfolio. As you will see, they are organized under people photographs, commerical places - which basically means office buildings, residential places - homes and apartments, and travel. The two travel galleries I have are of Dallas, which is always fun to photograph, and of Guadalajara, Mexico, a fascinating city I visited in the Spring of 2009.
